Can EPDM be used for my green roof?

Yes absolutely! Whilst your focus is likely to be on the planting and how great the finished article will look, it is equally important to make sure you choose the correct waterproof base. Therefore, a Classicbond EPDM membrane or Resitrix membrane will be ideal for your green roof, due to their long life span and also being highly resistant to punctures. This will give you the opportunity to see your green roof thrive without having to worry about what is happening underneath!

Helpful Information 

All Classicbond roofs that are to be used as part of a green roof system, require the following details:-

  • All tapes to be double taped. E.g, 3" tape covered in 6" tape, 9" covered in 12" etc. 
  • FLL certified root barrier to be installed over the membrane.
  • Geotextile then to be installed over Classicbond membrane. 
  • N.B. Geotextile can often be used without an additional root barrier if the plants are classed as non-invasive rooting.
  • If using Classicbond we would normally say to go with the 1.52mm membrane as that extra bit of thickness can make a difference.
  • Resitrix SKW is compatible with every green structure.
